ABOUT SWISSULTRA

FACTS

The swissultra is the only Ultratriathlon competition in Switzerland. The races offered always correspond to the multiple distance of a long distance triathlon (3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42.2 km running).

The athletes travel from all over the world to swissultra – from the USA, South America or Canada, from the Philippines, India and Malaysia. About half of the participants arrive from Europe (Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, France, Italy, Austria and Hungary).

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS

The number of participants varies – depending on the competitions on offer and other World Cup races. In 2016, the DOUBLE DECA (20x) field was quite small with eight athletes; however, there are only a few ultra triathletes in the world who dare to compete at such a distance. Parallel to this, a DECA was offered (11 participants). In 2017 there were four competitions on offer; the demand was correspondingly higher with 39 registrations. In 2018, 34 athletes competed. For logistical reasons, there is a limitation of athletes per race category due to the swimming pool as well as an overall limit due to the space available.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

THE IDEA

Since all three athletes wanted to take part in the competition in Buchs themselves, they looked for a president for the organizing committee and found in Jeff Lüscher an enthusiastic and competent mastermind.
